LEP Summer News 2009

Farewell to Bob and Jo. Bob leaves Trinity Church after 13

years service, and will be moving to Cheshire to be nearer their family. He has

been a great supporter of the LEP during this time. We will miss his quiet

humour, his wisdom and his teaching. Bob ’s farewell service will be held at

Trinity on Sunday 19th July at 6.30pm, led by Geoff Cornell the Circuit

Superintendent Minister. All welcome, so please come if you can.

His successor,Bill Tardy will be installed at St John ’s on 4th September. He has

a hard act to follow, but I am sure will fill the gap left in his own way.

Welcome to David Turner and Margaret Field, the new LEP church reps for

Trinity Church. David has also supplied us with the following article (abridged)

about the Trinity walks. Welcome too to our new LEP treasurer Geoff Hill. Jane

White is also new as treasurer for the Luncheon Club.

Trinity Walks. Now in their 22nd year, the organised walks offer some light

exercise and an opportunity to meet and talk with others along the way. The

Bible records instances, often with revealing consequences, of people walking

and talking together. It can be a time of relaxed and deep conversation and

companionship, and as has happened in the past at Trinity, there is always the

opportunity to bring people into church who may not have attended before .

There are day walks of 5-9 miles and summer evening walks from 2-4 miles,

and at least one non-local walk, eg in the Chilterns or Constable country. Some

are particularly suited to people’s mobility needs eg wheelchairs and

pushchairs. Walks are open to anyone, so please join us if you can. Copies of

the 2009 Trinity Walks programme should be in every LEP church. If you

cannot find one, or would like a copy of your own, please contact me and I

shall be pleased to forward it to you. David Turner 020 8366 4157

Meet a Need with Christian Care Annual Summer Tea was held on

Sunday 7th June. This event brings the elderly housebound together in the

company of friends, with a spread of home made cakes and tea to make the

mouth water. This year 60 guests enjoyed the afternoon, entertained by the

wonderfully talented Lisa, playing her keyboard and singing a medley of songs.

Thanks to all involved.

Pulpit Swap... Return Visit! Some of you will have had a guest preacher at

your church last Sunday, as part of the Pulpit Swap program, the first round of

which first took place in January. Mandy James from the Baptist church came

to us at Jesus Church and preached on 1 Peter, “you are a chosen people,a

royal priesthood, a holy nation ”. Scary stuff when the you is emphasised. It was

also revealed (shhhh!) that Ian had been brought up in a Baptist church and

Mandy in a C of E… in fact All Souls Langham Place where Ian’s daughter now

worships… small world eh? Mandy ’s response to being asked what she would

like to give thanks for: an increase in the number of young families coming to

church, and a strong support team. She asked for prayer regarding an urgently

needed assistant minister.
